Awards to Wisconsin businesses owned by disabled veterans, women, and minorities to recognize business growth and excellence. Nominations will be accepted to honor both large and small businesses that have shown growth capacity over the last five years with plans for continued expansion. Nominations will also be accepted for emerging enterprises with strong growth potential.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is seeking nominations for the 2021 MARKETPLACE Governor’s Awards.

Award categories:

  • Outstanding Large Business Awards: This is for companies with more than 25 employees  (full- and part-time). Recognizes Wisconsin-based certified business enterprises with 25 or more employees that have demonstrated the capacity to grow over the past five years, with plans to continue expanding in the future.
  • Outstanding Small Business Awards: This is for companies with 25 employees or fewer (full- and part-time). Recognizes Wisconsin-based certified business enterprises with 25 or fewer employees that have demonstrated the capacity to grow over the past five years, with plans to continue expanding in the future.
  • Rising Star Awards: Recognizes Wisconsin-based emerging certified business enterprises established on or after Jan. 1, 2017, that have demonstrated strong growth potential by virtue of their past performance, innovative products or services, business team or other distinct competitive advantage.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Award finalists receive full conference passes to MARKETPLACE 2021, plus discounts on optional exhibit booth space and event sponsorship. Finalists will also benefit from company profiles in the conference program booklet, conference website, and event press releases to increase visibility and help create new contracting opportunities.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

MARKETPLACE runs a competitive awards program to recognize Wisconsin companies.

Businesses owned by minorities, women and service-disabled veterans are eligible for the MARKETPLACE 2021 awards. The awards are open to Wisconsin-based companies that have been certified as a Minority-Owned Business Enterprise, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, Woman-Owned Business Enterprise or Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Enterprise by the state of Wisconsin or equivalent programs listed on the nomination form.

Self-nomination is also welcomed.

Pre-Application Information:

Nominations are due Sept. 15, 2021.

Winners will be recognized on December 9 at this year's 40th Anniversary of MARKETPLACE, Governor's Conference on Diverse Business Development - Wisconsin Center, Milwaukee Wisconsin.

To be eligible for an award in the current year, the company cannot have won that same award category under the same certification in the past five years.

Previous runner-up finalists are strongly encouraged to re-apply.
